What is FMGE?
Medical Council of India Screening Test (MCI), also known as Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), is a licensure examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in India. The test is one of the mandatory requirements for an Indian citizen who has a medical degree from a college outside India to practice medicine in the country. The screening test was introduced in 2002 as a qualifying examination for Indian students obtaining their medical degrees from countries other than India, such as countries belonging to the former. Soviet Union, Eastern European countries, China, Nepal, Philippines, and Caribbean countries. Indian doctors holding basic medical degrees from any country have to take the MCI screening test The Medical School should have been listed in the WHO international directory of Medical Schools.
This examination is held twice in year in June and December on the third Monday and Tuesday of the month.
What is FMGE?
National Board of Examinations (NBE), the examination conducting authority will declare the exam pattern of FMGE 2018 in its information bulletin to be released in the fourth week of April 2018 tentatively. Interested candidates can check below the complete details regarding the exam scheme and syllabus of FMGE. Candidates are advised to read the FMGE 2018 exam pattern thoroughly to get a better understanding of the marking scheme, number of questions and the syllabus etc. The FMGE 2018 exam will be conducted in the second week of June 2018 tentatively. The exam of FMGE 2018 June session exam will be conducted online (computer-based). The test will contain a total of 300 multiple choice questions in English language divided into two parts, taken in a single day (morning and afternoon session) of 150 questions each.The candidates are required to appear mandatorily in both the papers.
- FMGE EXAM PATTERN
- This is an online exam.
- The exam is divided in two parts- morning and evening.
- Part One: 10:00 AM to 12:45 PM (includes 15 minutes tutorial), Part Two: 3:15 PM to 5:45 PM.
- The duration of each part of the exam is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
- Each part contains 150 multiple choice questions (MCQs).
- There is a scheduled break between the two parts.
- There will be multiple-choice questions (MCQs) asked in the exam.
- The weightage of MCQ’s in each section will vary; NBE has the right to alter the marks of the questions.
- There is no negative marking.
FMGE Syllabus
The syllabus of the FMGE exam is issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI) with prior approval of the Government of India. The information bulletin comprising the FMGE 2018 syllabus for June session exam will be released in the second week of April 2018. However, the Candidates can check the FMGE syllabus 2018 for the month of June from previous year information. The subject areas comprised in the FMGE exam syllabus are as per the Graduate Medical Education Regulations notified by the MCI. The questions asked in the FMGE 2018 exam for the month of June will range from various topics such as para-clinical, pre-clinical and clinical sciences.
The information regarding the syllabus of FMGE for June session exam has been collated from previous year’s December exam to give the candidates an overview of the topics and questions being asked.
